Write your future self a letter.

What could be more motivating than an e-mail from your past self reminding you of your writing goals and dreams? FutureMe is a free service that lets you write an e-mail to yourself that will be sent on the date you select, from 30 days to 30 years into the future. Remind yourself of where you were X months/years ago so you can marvel at the progress you’ve made, or give yourself a motivational boost with a saying that always lifts your mood. [LF]

I did it. I wrote 30-day-older me an email. Now I’m frightened.

While writing the email I thought what a fantastic idea - I’ll just ask what I have accomplished in the last 30 days. Did I meet my goals? I’ve been doing this for years in my journals (every New Year’s Day morning I write a list of 10 things I’m to accomplish by the following Dec 31 - I average one accomplishment a year). Naturally when I first read your post about Future Me, I thought fabulous, just what I need to “motivate” me.

In my zeal, I took a no-excuses, harsh did-you-do-this-did-you-do-that attitude with a bit of if-you-didn’t name calling (shhhhh… I called myself the p-word - Procrastinator!!!)

Now, I think 15-minute-younger me lacks the compassion that comes with age and experience for those unavoidable curve balls life can toss at you. :-)

    Best,

    Anna

P.S. I’m finding the book very useful!

What a great idea! I tend to be the kind of person who tries to put too much on her plate (goal and food wise!)…so maybe this can help me keep my goals realistic.

    Thanks for sharing!
