Calling all renegades in northern Michigan — and generous freelancers elsewhere

Freelance writer Lori Hall Steele needs your help. This Saturday, her friends are holding a silent auction to benefit Steele, who’s unable to work because of a neurological condition doctors haven’t been able to figure out. To top things off, her insurance company isn’t covering any of the costs because they’re considering it a pre-existing condition. (For a better feel for what’s going on, read this article in her local paper.)

If you’re near Traverse City, the fundraiser on April 12 is open to all with a suggested $10 donation at the door. There will be food and entertainment, as well as the silent auction, where you can bid on some really cool stuff (like signed copies of books by Jim Harrison and Stephen King). It’s being held in the Mercato, at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons (Old State Hospital), and starts at 7:00 p.m. If you’re not nearby, but you’d like to donate an item for bidding or give money directly to Steele, contact Kris Hains at krishains [at] aol [dot] com. Please help! [db]
