FAQs for the Renegade Writer Makeover
This FAQ will be updated as questions roll in, so check back frequently.
Q. When will you announce the three candidates?
A. We received over 60 e-mails, some of them quite lengthy, from writers who want career makeovers. We want to consider each letter carefully, so it could take a few weeks for us to work through the pile and pick our three candidates. As soon as we’re close to a decision, we’ll update you — promise!
Q. How do I know if you’ve received my request for career makeover assistance?
A. This is one time when it’ll pay to follow the rules. If you sent your e-mail to makeover at therenegadewriter dot com, you should have received an auto-responder message from Diana and Linda. If you didn’t receive this message, send Diana an e-mail at diana at ninetofive dot com, and she’ll check her files. Don’t send your entry directly to Diana, though — she has filters set up with the other address, and should you bypass them, you’ll wreck her system and cause her to undue peevishness. Just kidding … but please, Diana’s not the most organized drawer in the cupboard, so be a good egg, okay? We’re getting a lot of entries and want to make sure everyone gets a fair shot.
Q. There’s no e-mail address listed in your blog post. Help!
A. Actually, there is … we spelled it out so evil spammers can’t harvest the e-mail address. It’s makeover at therenegadewriter dot com. Get it?
Q. Who are the makeover experts?
A. We’re asking number of experts to donate their time to help our three subjects. When we’ve selected our makeover candidates, we’ll let you know who our experts are by setting up a separate page on their specialties and how they’ll be helping out each freelancer. We want our three freelancers to have a broad variety of challenges so that the majority of our blog readers will find someone — or a challenge — they can relate to, which is why we anticipate having everyone from a life coach and organizational expert to a career coach and literary agent on board.
Q. Will the experts be blogging? Can I ask them a question about my career?
A. We don’t expect our experts to blog — if they want to, then of course, we’ll let them take the wheel for awhile. Since these people are busy professionals donating their time to a worthy charity (uh, that’s us) we want to make this as easy, painless and fun — yes, fun! — for them as possible. Comments on blog posts will be allowed, but don’t count on personal career advice.
